New 1000-franc note: Currency template available now

CI Tech delivers now upgraded Banknote Sensors and Currency Templates including the new 1000-franc note.

The new banknote presented by the Swiss National Bank (SNB) on March 5, 2019, is the 5^th banknote out of the 9^th series. It goes into circulation on March 13, 2019. The purple banknote has a smaller dimension of 70 x 158 mm instead of 74 x 181 mm. CI Tech’s CI Note Line is one of the few banknote acceptors on the market that can handle the previous version with its large length of 181 mm.

Surprisingly, the denomination is still widely used: According to a representative survey on payment methods published by the SNB, there were 50 million units in circulation at the end of 2017 (10.4 % of the total number of Swiss banknotes in circulation). Simultaneously only 174 counterfeit units got detected in 2017 by the federal criminal police’s counterfeit department.

The new note has the same numerous security features as the 200, 50, 20 and 10-franc notes which entered circulation over the past three years. Using a range of technologies, they are incorporated into both the front and the back of the note’s three-layer substrate.

Based on our close cooperation with SNB, all of our banknote detection systems on the market have immediate access to updated sensor detection software before new emissions are even issued. This allows our systems to detect the new banknote from the very beginning.
